Jim Carter, Ph.D.,  Director

Dr. Jim Carter is passionate about his work as a clinical and consulting psychologist.  He primarily focuses on delivering Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI).  Dr. Carter is a diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT), a member of Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), and a BTTI Certified OCD therapist.  Since 1999, he has been licensed as a psychologist, and has evaluated and treated patients in private practice, hospital, university counseling center, and prison settings.  Dr. Carter possesses specialized training in the areas of CBT, MI, OCD, addiction, behavioral pharmacology, and staff training and development.  He formerly held positions at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, and University of California - San Diego.  He consults internationally, has served as co-principal investigator of NIH funded clinical trial research studies, authored and reviewed articles in scientific and trade journals, and conducted program reviews.  Dr. Carter values his roles as husband and father; and he enjoys yoga, music, sports, boating and fishing.
